Remember this jacket 💜

Last week an internet customer drove 2 hours down to our Disorder studio. As someone that has a soft spot for Bentleys, I felt a bit embarrassed when our customer pulled up in one of those 😉 and had to battle through our environmentally friendly driveway, the carpet of leaves & weeds.
Dressed head to toe in Vivian Westwood... (t-shirt here 👇😅), he was very sweet & relieved to have arrived. He was bold and energetic, as is the case with many of our Disorder customers. In all the years I've been in retail, one thing I've learnt, is to never judge a book by its cover or car in this case. When we told him about how we started, degrees in Politics etc, he was quite surprised and out came his political heritage and his political acumen shone bright. Turns out he is pretty embedded in the Labour Party and mentored the Milliband brothers...Nowadays he believes more in revolution 🥲.
I asked how he became self made and it blew our minds. The man basically set up an industrial retail park and offered rent free units to start ups for the best part of a year to help generate cash flow for their businesses in an area where the local economy was suffering & there was little hope. Fast forward a few years and more industrial parks, he has transformed a huge part of the city and has single handedly created a thriving community, a business utopia. He consults the Government (wish he was the PM), and continues to be a local philanthrophic dragon, with a focus on helping kids start up their passions from disadvantaged backgrounds.
What a bloke! It was truly an honour to meet him.
We discussed about working together imminently as it would be a shame not to as there is mutual appreciation in our creative & socio-political mindset.
One in a million kind of person ✨️✨️✨️...
thank you for driving down, super lucky to meet amazing people through our clothing brand. Disorder definitely attracts the ones that goes against the grain. 🙏

We had an internet customer Dr. Gordon Bates, a psychiatrist who came to visit us (pictured in the first photo). He had never been to our shop in Birmingham and only happened to discover us whilst internet surfing for holiday clothes to wear to a scuba diving trip to Malaysia with his wife. Funnily he is from down the road Moseley 😄. Great chat about the release of his book, the origins of psychiatry 👇. All interesting to me as someone who likes a fair dose of psychology reading as it helps me to understand people & myself included 🤪.
We had the talented Kris Halpin pop by today, he needed another pair of trousers and tried on a Disorder jacket with 'his vibe,' looked wicked. We discovered that him and his wife also home educates their 3 young kids and we got very excited as some of you may know we also home ed our 11 year old✌️.
Then, there is the adorable photo of our youngest customers Olivia & William, who are wearing custom made Disorder pieces. They very patiently waited for their mum Nicola Doyle ❤️ and I to finish chatting about some crazy stuff 😜. We were very proud to make their gear, such special kids 💗.
We had the lovely Rhona Barnett and her husband Steve, retired paramedic come for a fitting. We chatted about Steve's work during the pandemic and his thoughts about it all. We all seem to have moved on from that whole period but we talked about how scarring it was worldwide. Meanwhile, Rhona was happy with the fit of her made to measure suit, it just needs a bit more taken in.
Lastly, Ben came to see us, gave us feedback on his recent night out...he said people kept complimenting him all night on his Disorder clothes. We had spine chilling chats about the supernatural 💫💫 and after ordering quite a few t-shirts, he said he has to come back again as we distracted him & it was getting late 🏕🌙🪐 😄...we are not the best sales people in the world; retail therapy without the focus on the retail 🤣.

Disorder’s Rainbow Hand of Fatima

Disorders' new Rainbow Hand t-shirt range is inspired by the Hand of Fatima symbol. The origins of this ancient symbol can be traced long into our shared history, being used as a symbol of protection from evil spirts. Therefore, I view the symbol as universe belonging to humanity and not just to any one group exclusively. As such Disorder's Rainbow Hand of Fatima is a universal and powerful symbol of[...]

The Sarus Crane: first contact to finished image

The Sarus Crane, from first contact to finished T-shirt, the inspiration behind Disorder's new artwork. I first got the idea for a drawing, The Circle of Life, from a chance meeting with a Sarus Crane.  It was During a ten hour drive from Yangon to the coast, in the Delta region of Myanmar, that we first came across the majestic Sarus Crane. The worlds tallest bird, at 1.8 meters[...]

Disorder: Art Meets fashion

Silent-Assassin: Etymology of Assassin

Silent-Assassin: Etymology of Assassin, I have always been fascinated by the history of words, the etymology. Words such as Assassin, we use and come across in everyday life, without much thought of where they're come from. When you look into their roots words become spotlights into our shared human history and highlight our cultural links with one another. While I was sketching the Silent Assassin drawing, I came across the[...]

Amazon Rainforest

Amazon Rainforest The Amazon Rainforest is quite literally  the lungs of the earth and is the subject of a new range of ethical apparel from Disorder. In particular, we wanted to focus on the symbiotic relationship between the indigenous people of the rainforest and their environment. The project started during lockdown 2021, over the long dark winter months, we started to work on some ideas. With the backdrop of a[...]

Bruce Lee, “Be like water”

Bruce Lee “Be like water making its way through cracks. Do not be assertive, but adjust to the object, and you shall find a way around or through it. If nothing within you stays rigid, outward things will disclose themselves. Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle.[...]

It all began inquisitively enough when purchasing a random piece at a postcard fair. "I'd always been interested in modern history and in particular Victorian times, but when I saw the image I just thought he looked an interesting and foreboding character and wanted to find out more about him. This interest[...]

BREXIT AND SLOWING DOWN FAST FASHION

IMG_8785BREXIT AND SLOWING DOWN FAST FASHION In light of Brexit,  I have chosen to revisit a blog post I wrote a few years ago, April 16th 2012 to be exact. Believe me things havn't improved a great deal.....as a country, our balance of payment is still growing the wrong way, but the growth of the slow fashion movement is showing green shoots. But if we had all listened back then[...]
