Disorder: Slow Fashion and Sustainability.
Disorder is a slow fashion brand, established in Birmingham in 1998, with sustainability at our core. To ensure our customers receive a high quality, unique ‘slow fashion’ garment, Disorder has created their own vertically integrated, sustainable, fashion ecosystem. This allows us to have our garments fully traceable, giving our customers confidence, their Disorder garment will be made in the most ethical way. Ethical standards are upheld along the whole of the supply chain. We make as many of our garments in house as possible, in our own Birmingham micro factory. Where we have to use an external supplier, we insist they are certified sustainable and organic with the necessary accreditations from independent bodies and standards. Each of these certifications demonstrate that they are working towards building healthy environmental practices and greater respect for the planet, every step of the way.
We also make our own ethical fabrics and print them with our own original artwork. We source British fabrics where possible, and making all our garments in house, thus truly ‘made in Britain’. We do this, not because we are control freaks, but to ensure our clothing is as sustainability and ethical as possible.
Slow fashion is the opposite to fast fashion and part of the “slow movement“, which advocates for manufacturing in respect to people, environment and animals. As such, contrary to industrial fashion practices, slow fashion involves local artisans and the use of eco-friendly materials, with the goal of preserving crafts and the environment and, ultimately, provide value to both consumers and producers.[1]

Since Disorder opened it’s doors in 1998, it’s mission has been to create high quality garments in the most responsible and ethical way. Disorder therefore integrate sustainability into everything we do, making deliberate decisions about who we work with, how we work & what materials we use.
FROM FIELD TO FASHION
It’s a long journey from the cotton field to the final product. At every step of the complex supply chain Disorder and our suppliers aim to ensure the highest level of responsibility. Our organic cotton, sourced from India, goes through a number of stages as it moves from the cotton farm to a finished decorated garment to be sold in Europe.
DISORDER WORK ONLY WITH CERTIFIED SUPPLIERS USING 100% ORGANIC COTTON AND RECYCLED MATERIALS
At Disorder we only work with our suppliers who source the best raw materials, grown or produced in ways that do not harm people, animals or the environment. They exclusively use certified organic cotton from India, recycled polyester from China and other sustainable materials such as Modal®.

Our supply chain is certified by various independent bodies and standards. Each of these certifications demonstrate that we are working towards building healthy environmental practices and greater respect for the planet, every step of the way. to implement GOTS Certified printing techniques which use non-harmful inks and sustainable production methods. So that we can affirm that our finalized, decorated garments are 100% fully sustainable.
The Global Recycled Standard (GRS) is an international, voluntary, full product standard that sets requirements for third-party certification of Recycled Content, chain of custody, social and environmental practices, and chemical restrictions. The goal of the GRS is to increase use of Recycled materials in products and reduce/eliminate the harm caused by its production.
The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) was developed by leading standard setters to define world-wide recognised requirements for organic textiles. From the harvesting of the raw materials, environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing to labelling, textiles certified to GOTS provide a credible assurance to the consumer. We have chosen to work sustainably using only 100% certified organic cotton in our range of t-shirts and sweatshirts. It is a stringent certification that guarantees cotton is organically grown without the use of genetically modified seeds or any harmful chemical products. It ensures traceability of products from the field to the final customer, including transaction certificates at each and every stage of production.
The Organic Content Standard (OCS) is a standard for tracking and verifying the content of organically grown materials in a final product.
